The flocculation of silicone oil-in-water emulsions ( φ = 0.1) containing quasi-monodisperse droplets was studied by ultrasound.
The ultrasonic attenuation spectra of emulsions with different particle sizes (200-1600 nm) were measured between 0.5 and
10 MHz using an interferometer. Flocculation was induced by adding excess sodium dodecyl sulphate micelles to the emulsions
to increase the attractive forces between the droplets. Droplet flocculation decreased the ultrasonic attenuation at low frequencies
because of overlap of the thermal waves caused by the close proximity of the droplets within the flocs. A mean-field model
which takes into account this effect was used to determine the droplet volume fraction within the flocs and thus to estimate
the distance between the droplets.

In this article we present the first results obtained for nanostructured γ-Ni20Zn80 alloy prepared by a thermo-mechanical (TM) process developed in our laboratory. The process uses the energy stored in the defect structure, generated via mechanical milling of the nickel, to accelerate the reaction in the solid state, allowing a more rapid alloy formation. The process presents several advantages, when compared with techniques currently used for the production of this class of materials. The X-ray diffraction pattern for the alloy produced by the TM process is compared with that measured for the same alloy, produced by the mechanical alloying technique. The results show that the TM process holds the potential to become a valuable alternative method for the production of nanostructured materials. 相似文献

Ternary subdivision schemes compare favorably with their binary analogues because they are able to generate limit functions with the same (or higher) smoothness but smaller support.In this work we consider the two issues of local tension control and conics reproduction in univariate interpolating ternary refinements. We show that both these features can be included in a unique interpolating 4-point subdivision method by means of non-stationary insertion rules that do not affect the improved smoothness and locality of ternary schemes. In this work we demonstrate that non-symmetrically substituted phthalo-naphthalocyanine molecule can have extremely large 2PA cross section in near-resonance conditions of excitation. We also show the possibility to switch between its two tautomeric forms upon two-photon excitation at 77 K. By measuring 2PA cross section, quantum efficiency of transformation in these two forms, as well as quantum yield of fluorescence, we evaluate the figure of merit for fast re-writable 3D information storage and show that this figure meets the criteria of reliable and fast (one bit per one femtosecond pulse) 2PA writing or reading. 相似文献

We report on grain growth and related structure change in single phased Al-Li-Cu quasicrystals. The icosahedral phase grains
have been investigated using scanning ion microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Regular boundaries between large
grains have been observed both before and after high temperature annealing. The electron diffraction study shows that the
grain growth is accompanied by a reduction of the phason-strains. The orientation relation between grains sets the 2-fold
icosahedral axes parallel, and the coincidence of the planes depends on the phason strain-field. The effect of phason-strain
field on these boundaries is discussed. It is proposed that the phason strain elimination can play a role in the grain growth.
